Now here’s a nice little movie to pass the afternoon with. Electrical aliens invade the world leaving a group of survivors to get through the streets of Moscow in a bid to reach other survivors. Following two Americans stuck in Russia after the invasion, they team up with a Russian businessman who screwed them oit of a deal earlier in the day along with two girls. The effects work brilliantly as we learn that the aliens are invisible in the daylight, their presence only seen when electrical equipment lights up. This gives the movie a ghostly supernatural edge and a clever twist as night becomes the only way to see them.

The effects where the aliens begin mass slaughter are wonderful as people and dogs are shredded in mid air with some deaths being particularly superb. When they learn that a submarine is waiting to take any survivors in order to meet up with similar subs across the world the race is on to reach it. the tension never lets up and we see how good humans are at adapting and coming up with counter measures to combat the aliens. We meet a man who has turned his flat and cat into a Faraday cage and a group of militia that are able to turn themselves and horses into anti alien weapons, especially as we learn the aliens are drilling for minerals all over the world.

Everything works here from script to screen with solid performances where no one is guaranteed to survive. The alien effects are top notch and the ending of the movie makes perfect sense in the world apocolypse.

A cracking movie with great imagination and worthy of a sequel.
